      @Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

      hey, can you or someone answer this ?, although you say that organic farming that make those organic fruit/vegetable nutritious are nearly the same as the normal farming way today, but a few day ago a news that I watch (on the world topic) say that the nutritious over the year are beginning to become less, that in the past (around ww 1 or before) one apple is enough, but now you need to eat around 20 apple (not literally, but a bit close enough) just to get enough nutritious there, something to do with the way modern farming (not organic one) make the farm land more starving of nutritious for the plant to consume, and they harvest almost right away when the plant just ripe, so not allow much time for the plant to absorb much nutritious at all, that what I remember the news said about
      so in the end, do the organic fruit/vegetable are more nutritious than the normal fruit ?

            This video isn’t totally wrong, but leaves a lot out. I’m surprised the discussion of environmental impact totally neglected effects on soil health, or that synthetic fertilizer is made from natural gas, or that departing from the conventional focus on high yield monoculture was the whole point of organic. While productivity of an individual crop may go down, organic farners can intercrop - reduce the depletion of soil nutrients while simultantaneously diversifying production (and risk of crop failure). Yes, organic production is entirely about ideology bc it was founded by people disillusioned by conventional ag, which is heavily subsidized, dependent on inputs & ever-“advancing” technologies for farmers to invest in, and characterized by extreme concentration of power on all levels, which makes it hard for farners, especially small ones, to survive.

                              @kurzgesagt thank you for actually keeping a level head, saying that organic or bio isn't better. I study plant sciences and when we did some calculations we got less emission/kg produce, with less land needed. I don't think bio labels are good, I think the rules for everyone should change. If the right rules are generated, there is no use for the bio label. I live in the netherlands, perhaps the forefront with regards to farming, and I have this note about the most bs rule in bio food: it must be produced on full ground. To someone unspecialized that might sound like it is logical, but for the current state of agriculture it is utter rubbish. There's hydroponic systems using up all the waste that's a side product from fish. You'd think I just mentioned the major reason but that is a sidenote on a small scale. there are currently greenhouses that are carbon neutral (solar energy+heat pumps), yet they are unable to put on any "bio" label even though they were harvested carbon neutrally, without the use of pesticides (most greenhouses don't even get infections, so there is no need for fungicides). As with pests, there is a reason why you can buy ladybugs on amazon, it's used in greenhouses to combat pests.

                                I believe animal produce should be viewed seperately, because organic food has much higher standards for animal welfare. This often leads to smaller farms with less animals. At least from a moral perspective, there is a big plus for organic.

                                                  Conventional produce has a bitter aftertaste that is not present in organic produce.
                                                  This is why the majority of the fine dining restaurants use organics.
                                                  Once you have been eating organically your taste buds will recognize the difference in most cases, especially if you are not a smoker or are not having alcohol with your meal.
                                                  I thought at first that my particularly sensitive taste buds were the reason I could tell the difference in multiple blind taste tests.
                                                  However, now that my husband has been eating organically grown foods for some time now he can easily tell the difference as well.
                                                  This video is not even close to being comprehensive concerning the pros and cons of organic vs. conventional.

                                                          So summed up:
                                                          Organic food uses less energy, more land, usually less (but not always zero) pesticides, and nearly the same green house gasses
                                                          Conventional food uses more energy, less land, and normally more pesticides
                                                          Organic farmers use compost and manure, Conventional farmers also can but many times use processed fertilizer
                                                          The best thing for the environment is seasonal food since it is easily produced at the time
                                                          They both have mixed tests but organic *>can<* be better for health
                                                          Organic food is really people wanting to do the right and supposedly right thing for the environment

                                                                This didn't even look at it from a bacteria standpoint. Does one kill or promote the life in the soil, does one kill or promote bacterial life in the gut. Those two things have serious implications on a wide variety of issues like carbon intake, fertile soil production, mental and physical health and so on. The question shouldn't be is it good for us. It should be is it good for the microscopic life that are the true masters of this world
